Booking Hotels Made Easy

When it comes to booking hotels there are lots of different options available and this can sometimes be a little overwelming. From traditional travel agencies to online booking platforms, there are numerous avenues to explore. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll have a look into some of the best places to book hotels, catering to various preferences, budgets, and travel styles with some extra tips on how to get the best deal.

Online Travel Agencies (OTAs):

Online travel agencies really will be your first port of call, I search through the ones below comparing the prices between all three. All of them have great apps to download and loyalty schemes to sign up to.

Hotel Websites:

After using the OTA’s to narrow my search and create a sort list of hotels I then go direct to the hotel website to check out some of the deals that may only be available when booking direct and when signing up to their loyalty schemes. The links below are some of the biggest names however there are thousands to choose from.

  • Accor – (Novotel / Ibis / Mercure / Fairmont / Intercontinental)
  •  IHG – (Holiday inn / Candlewood suites / Crown Plaza and many others come under this Parent company)
  • Hilton
  • Marriot
  • Premier inn – UK Travel / European Travel (not available on comparison sites or OTA’s

Aggregator Websites:

Aggregator websites compile listings from various OTAs and hotel websites, allowing users to compare prices across different platforms. These websites often provide additional features such as price alerts or flexible date searches, making it easier for travellers to find the best deals. Here are my top three :-

Last-Minute Booking Apps:

For spontaneous travellers or those in need of a last-minute accommodation, apps like HotelTonight specialize in offering discounted rates on unsold hotel rooms. These apps typically feature a selection of handpicked hotels available for booking on the same day or for stays within the next few days.

While the selection may be limited compared to other booking methods, the potential savings can make it worthwhile for those flexible with their travel plans.

Using these apps totally goes against my meticulous planning style for holidays (especially with having a young family) and not something I have really explored, however this is an option for you if you like to go with the flow a bit more.

Loyalty Programs:

Whether you’re just travelling for a few nights at a time or for longer periods, loyalty programs really are worth it,

Always check with the booking provided or the hotel direct if they have a scheme you can sign up to. Overtime you may amass enough points or rewards for free nights, extra services or larger discounts.

Travel Agents:

While less common in the age of online booking, traditional travel agents still offer personalized service and expertise that can be valuable for certain travellers. Travel agents can help navigate complex itineraries, provide insider tips, and often have access to exclusive deals or packages. For travellers seeking a stress-free booking experience or planning elaborate trips, consulting with a travel agent can provide peace of mind and ensure a seamless travel experience.

IMPORTANT :
  • When booking any trip always make sure your provider is ATOL protected.
  • Always use a credit card as you have better protection should anything go wrong .
  • Always remember to book your Travel insurance as soon as you book anything.

My Top Tips to help get the best deal!

  1.  Explore all booking sites  – Use my guide above for the different options, prices will vary for the same hotel on different sites.
  2.  Compare all the rates available – Is getting breakfast really the best value or could you eat out for cheaper?
  3. Cancellable room rates – If it’s not much more expensive book a room that is cancellable. Put a note on the calendar to check the room rate every month, if it comes down simply cancel the original and rebook (I have saved thousands of pounds over the years by doing this).
  4.  Loyalty Schemes – Really do take advantage of these, at the time the rewards may seem small but they soon add up to free night way or bigger discounts.
  5. Hotel credit cards – Many of the bigger chains offer hotel branded credit cards, everyday spending on these with soon give you enough points for reward nights and money off. (remember to pay any credit cards off in full every month).
  6. Cashback – Use places like topcashback and quico to get a percentage back on your bookings.
