What to pack for your Disney Cruise?

A Disney cruise is nearly guaranteed to be an amazing, relaxing and fun vacation. However, knowing what to pack can be overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time cruising with Disney.

Important Documents

  • Passports, Birth Certificates and IDs
  • Non-expired government-issued ID
  • Travel permission letter (if traveling with kids without the other custodial parent)
  • Disney Cruise Port Arrival Form with QR code
  • Doctor’s note (if pregnant and less than 23 weeks – over 23 weeks cannot sail)
  • Luggage tags for port travel
  • Insurance Documents

Clothes

General Tips

  • Don’t stress too much about outfits. Casual, comfortable clothes are usually appropriate. Your packing list will depend on your cruise length, destination, and activities.

Wardrobe Suggestions

  • Casual outfits (one per day)
  • Sleepwear (one to two pairs)
  • Swimsuits (one to two, plus rash guards or UV-protectant swim shirts)
  • Swimsuit cover-up, hat, and sunglasses
  • Zip-up hoodie or sweater for movies and evening shows
  • Workout gear (optional)
  • Shoes: trainers, sandals, water shoes and optional dress shoes
  • Nicer outfits for adult-only restaurants or dress-up nights
  • Mickey ears (optional but fun and and essential for me!)
  • Excursion-specific gear: casual outfits, umbrellas or rain gear as needed

If sailing to Alaska:

  • Rain jacket
  • Warmer layers (vests, long sleeve shirts)
  • Warm gloves and hat
  • Hiking boots (if necessary)

If on a seven-day or longer sailing:

  • Dressy attire for “formal night”
  • Travel-size laundry detergent or laundry sheets

Themed Outfits

Miscellaneous Essentials

Embarkation Day Backpack

Pack the following in your backpack as you may not get your larger suitcases until mid afternoon:

  • Passports, IDs, and boarding documents
  • Money and credit cards
  • Necessary medication
  • Electronics and external charger
  • Swimsuit, sunscreen, flip-flops, and sun hat

Pro tip: One of the best times to swim or use the waterslides without crowds is shortly after boarding. Wear your swimsuit under your clothes or change in a restroom after boarding.

Door Decorations

Decorate your cabin door with magnets or personalized items to make it easy to spot it is a great little activity for kids also to pick out their favourites and they roam the ship.

Here are a few to look at:

Fish Extenders and Disney Accessories

If you’re interested, join an informal gift exchange group. You’ll need a “fish extender” to hang from the mail holder outside your cabin door These can be personalized or purchased online. Facebook has a group for every sailing date make sure you join this to take part in fish extenders

If It is your first cruise and fish extender groups seem a bit too much, still consider getting a hanger though as people like to drop little gifts in anyway

You will find some here on Amazon

Food and Drinks

BYO Wine or Beer

  • Adults can bring up to two bottles of Wine/Champagne or six cans of beer. These must be carried onboard

Nonalcoholic Beverages

  • You can bring unopened nonalcoholic beverages but they must be carried onboard

Snacks

  • You can bring factory-sealed snacks. Special foods for babies are allowed and fresh pureed vegetables can be requested on board

Cash and Cards

Cash

  • Bring cash for tips for excursion guides. Local currency may be needed for tips and purchases in places like Europe

Credit Cards

  • Most onboard purchases will be charged to the credit card on file. Use a travel-friendly credit card for onshore purchases

Disney Gift Cards

  • Pack Disney gift cards to pay for onboard purchases

Bottom Line

Avoid overpacking, focus on essential items like comfortable clothes, swimwear, necessary documents, and funds. The above Disney cruise packing list will help ensure a magical experience.
